It’s true that men are like dogs, but not in the way you may have heard. As every dog owner knows, a happy dog needs regular food, love, exercise and not much else. A man (or many times a women) on vacation needs the same three things. The food and love shouldn’t be a problem during a honeymoon or other romantic trip, but the exercise part can be.
In our encounters with honeymooners a general pattern has emerged. Men often need a different kind of activity than women, a bit of “hunting and gathering.” Some men need actual exercise, but many just enjoy renting a car and exploring the French countryside, searching Istanbul for the latest copy of the Wall Street Journal, or waking up early and returning with fresh coffee.
If a couple hasn’t done real traveling together before, we suggest that both be prepared that a gorgeous hotel suite and a stack of books and massage oils may not be enough. Plan some outings, and don’t be surprised if your husband or wife takes one or two more than you need. Like energetic dogs, some people just need a bit more exercise than others.
